Big Win for Tiger B...

On a beautiful fall afternoon on Saturday, the Suffield Tiger B soccer team hosted Gunnery, a team that had overpowered the Tigers in their first meeting beating the Tigers 5 - 0. The Tigers were at full strength for this home game; and after an excellent warm up period, they were ready to show Gunnery a different Tiger team. Justin Hern began in the goal for Suffield, and his superb saves plus excellent defense by Junyang Chen, Henry Lee, Kenny Lin, Arnold Chung, Connor Donovan, Jaid Dunn, Peter Jiang, Partho Karak, Andrew Dzhendzheruha, Kao Kitichotkul, Minh Nguyen, Cam Parrow, Teddy Taylor, and John Zhang kept Gunnery scoreless for most of the first half. Meanwhile Suffield's offense was doing its job with attack after attack at the Gunnery goal. Supported by strikers and middies Luke Bonini, Ivan Belyaevskiy, Tim Cordes, Pat Cordes, Michael Greco, and Owen Kinne, Suffield's Quinn Matthes found himself in a sudden breakaway and beat the defenders to the goal and put Suffield ahead 1 - 0. However, a handball by a Suffield player in the box gave Gunnery a penalty kick that they capitalized on to tie the game 1 - 1. Michael Greco took over the goal in the second half, and Justin Hern became a striker. The second half was intense with both team having chances to score. However, shots just missed or were saved by Michael and Gunnery's goalie again and again. With 15 seconds left in the game, the Tigers stole a ball at midfield and sent it ahead to Quinn Matthes who raced down the field, drew defenders towards him, and then slipped the ball perfectly to Justin Hern who drilled the winning goal with just three seconds on the clock. The final score was the Tigers winning 2 - 1. Not only was this Tiger B's first win, but it was a true team effort that demonstrated the determination and improvement of the Tiger players.
