Good season for Girls JV...
Suffield - 3
Hopkins - 5
It was the final game of the season and the girls were excited to finish off the season with a win. It was a cool day, but not as cold and raw as it had been earlier in the week. Hopkins came out with a flurry of passing and movement that kept our defense on their toes early. Suffield began to settle in and the play was a little more back and forth. Hopkins scored first, 23 minutes into the game as the player dribbled into the box and slide the ball past Maya Grant. 4 minutes later, Suffield evened the score as Emma Winiarski drove down the left side and sent a bending cross/shot towards the goal that fell in behind the keeper. Spirits were light at the half as the girls felt the momentum swinging their way. 2 minutes into the second frame, Hopkins again found the net with a bending shot from outside the box that dropped in under the bar and over the outstretched hands of the goalie. Undaunted, the girls responded less than 2 minutes later as Winiarski crossed the ball into the box and Sabrina Louro crashed the net and volleyed the ball firmly into the goal. Hopkins kept at it and took advantage of a few mistakes as they scored the next 2 goals. With just under 5 minutes, they added their fifth of the game. A minute after, Natassa Flevotomos carried the ball towards the right side of the goal from the corner and deftly placed the ball under a diving keeper to pull the team within two. A flurry of activity gave us a few more chances, but they were turned away.
Overall it was a good season. The girls were a talented group and the level of play was good. The group met the challenge of improving everyday and they certainly made huge strides over the course of the season. It was a pleasure to coach this group and a special thanks go out to our seniors and Captains, Isabella Attianese and Maya Grant for their leadership, strong play, and commitment to the team over the season and their career. Thanks for all for your support.
Final Record: 5-9-0
