Athletes of the Week
Suffield acknowledged nominees and recipients of “Athlete of the Week” at lunch on February 5. The award recognizes outstanding achievements by male and female students whose contributions embody the spirit of Suffield athletics and citizenship.
The male athlete of the week was Joe Rusnock ’21 from varsity swimming. Stepping up to lead the Tigers this season, Joe is swimming to near All-American times in duel meet competition. He leads Suffield in four of eight individual events and looks to be ranked nationally within the top 100 swimmers based on impressive early season swims, including a win against Brunswick in the breaststroke. His remarkable improvement this year as a sophomore builds on an already impressive freshman season.
The female athletes of the week were Kaitlyn Suller ’22 and Cassie Dumay ’21 from girls’ junior varsity basketball. Kaitlyn and Cassie set the tone on both ends of the court in Suffield’s two wins against Berkshire and Choate. Kaitlyn’s consistent ball pressure on defense led to several steals while Cassie contributed to a number of blocked shots. On offense they were the team’s two leading scorers throughout the week, scoring 12 points and 9 points respectively.
