2013-2014 School Year Underway
The 2013-2014 academic year officially began at Suffield on September 9, 2013. Headmaster Charlie Cahn welcomed Suffield's students and faculty and spoke of Suffield's mission and some important school traditions. Student Council President Denny Smythe '14 then shared thoughts about the opportunities ahead and the strong spirit that characterizes the Suffield community. Academic Dean Sara Yeager told stories tied to the 2013-2014 school theme of identity and asked students to contemplate how the events and people in their lives shape who they are. She said, "We are all unique and frankly, we are all a little bit strange. Think about who you are, think about who you want to be, and live by our school motto: To be and not to seem."
Suffield's 414 students come from 18 American states and 28 different countries. Headmaster Cahn noted, "The features highlighted in Suffield's mission—academic excellence, hard work, diversity, respect for others, and a structured, encouraging environment—these features guide our community."
