Alumni Leadership Awards
Suffield Academy held its 13th annual Alumni Leadership Awards Program Day on May 4. The Alumni Association created the program to honor Suffield graduates who have displayed notable leadership in their professional careers or in a humanitarian endeavor.
The Alumni Leadership Award Selection Committee is comprised of alumni, students, and members of the faculty. This year's committee members were Ed Kaplan '77, David Rockwell '58, Phil Riegel '87, Harry Melendez III '07, Anthony Deni '15, Tyler Ersoff '15, Andrew Mahoney '15, Drew Martin '15, Camille Mason '15, Endy Morales '15, and Ali Walsh '15.
The awards were presented to Gerard J. Hall '77, Dr. Michael F. Sheridan '58, and Joseph G. Thompkins '58. Gerard is the founder and CEO of SMT, the award winning purveyor of high-tech solutions that integrate real-time sports data and 3-D visualizations into live television broadcasts. Mike has now “retired” from his work as a vulcanologist taken the role of Director for the Center of Geohazard Studies, for which he organized an international conference in Colombia to discuss tensions surrounding the volcano Nevado de Ruiz that took the lives of more than 30,000 people in 1985. Jay Tompkins is owner and president of Saga Investment Company Incorporated, a money management and venture capital investment firm that offers financial advice to small private and not-for-profit organizations.
The recipients were honored and shared remarks in Tisch Field House. Gerard, Michael, and Jay all spoke about their careers and how their time at Suffield helped give them the confidence to pursue their passions in life.
