Barry is a graduate of Deerfield Academy, the University of Notre Dame, and Springfield College. Barry has served Suffield in a variety of roles, including assistant headmaster, associate director of admissions, director of financial aid, and as a college counselor. He received the New England Association of College Admissions Counselors Award in 2001 for the Counselor of the Year in Connecticut. In addition to teaching history, and overseeing the postgraduate and senior leadership programs, he is also the dean of faculty. Barry has coached football, basketball, softball, and baseball at Suffield. He was the first recipient of the Pervear–Kinne Prize for coaching in 2008. As the head coach of varsity baseball from 1979-2005, his teams compiled a record of 364–109, including three undefeated seasons and eight league championships. The New England Prep Baseball League has honored him by naming its Eastern Division the Cleary Conference. Barry and his wife Laurie, who is the school’s archivist, live on Academy Drive. Their sons are both graduates of the Academy; Tim ’02 (Trinity College ’06) is currently a faculty member at Tabor Academy and Ryan ’05 (Notre Dame ’09) is teaching social studies at Our Lady of Mercy in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Barry and Laurie have four grandchildren: Addison, Brynnleigh, Emerson, and Sloane.
A graduate of the Williston Northampton School, Nate went on to St. Lawrence University, where he received honors for his talents as a football player. Before coming to Suffield, Nate was a residential caseworker for the Department of Youth Services, served as a director in a special education program at Westfield Vo-Tech High School, and taught special education at Parsons Academy. In addition to serving as the assistant dean of students, Nate teaches in the math department. He is the assistant varsity volleyball coach and also a basketball coach at Suffield. Nate lives near campus with his wife Jamie and their daughters Rori ’21 and Caelyn.
