About Suffield Academy Alpine Skiing Suffield Academy has one of the top alpine ski teams in southern New England. The team has successfully worked with experienced and new racers. The team trains daily at Ski Sundown in New Hartford, CT combining slalom and giant slalom training with on-campus strength and conditioning workouts. Video analysis of our own racers is also a regular component of our training program. Suffield's daily schedule permits the alpine ski team to maximize their on-snow training and racing time, without making any sacrifices to the demanding academic standards of the school. Students leave campus shortly after lunch and return before dinner. In addition to interscholastic racing, Suffield offers its athletes the opportunity to compete independently in races sanctioned by the Eastern Division of the United States Ski Association (USSA). Suffield athletes compete in the Brigham Ski League (BSL) and the Class A New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), against opponents that include Berkshire, Loomis Chaffee, Salisbury and Taft. We race on Wednesdays at mountains including Ski Sundown, Butternut Basin, Mohawk, and Catamount. While league races are co-ed, we have both girls’ and boys’ teams represent Suffield at the New England Championships. Suffield racers have won or finished in the Top 10 in several of these championships during the past few years. Suffield Academy and Berkshire School will co-host the 2019 Class A NEPSAC Championships at Mt. Sunapee, New Hampshire.
