The goal of the program as a whole is to be as competitive as possible while supporting anyone who wants to play, regardless of experience or skill. Students who look to make varsity in their first year at Suffield tend to have prior experience playing squash. Each year however, the team relies on players from the junior varsity to move up and strengthen the ladder from top to bottom. The team strives for an excellent dual and tri match record during the season to best prepare for the NEPSAC tournament.
The JV team emphasizes the fundamentals of the game; racquet skills, proper technique, footwork, the understanding of rules and strategy, and above all else, sportsmanship.
Team History: A New Tradition
Suffield’s girls’ squash program has enjoyed much success in recent years, finishing in the Top 20 in New England in 4 of the past 7 years.
The Suffield girls’ varsity squash team competes against many strong programs in Western New England, including Loomis Chaffee, Westminster, Westover, and Miss Porter’s. A challenging and demanding season schedule prepares the team well for success at New England’s.
Recent Suffield squash alumnae are currently playing or have played competitively at the college level at schools such as George Washington University, Middlebury College, Connecticut College, Columbia University, Hamilton College, Colby College, Franklin and Marshall, and Hobart/William Smith.
